Peterson Named Outstanding Wrestler, Rye Places 12th

Remington Peterson ran his record to 11-0 and won the gold medal at the Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational held in Walsenburg last Saturday. Peterson dominated his four opponents, with technical fall wins of 26-11, 23-8, and 22-7 before pinning Cobb of Peyton 49 seconds into the second period.

Boys’ Basketball Team Wins Own Tournament – Listed in Early Season Top Ten

The Rye High School Boys’ basketball team rolled to a perfect 3-0 week in their own tournament including a come from behind victory against 4A foe Pueblo Centennial on the opening night of the tournament.

Magnificent Seven Take Centauri Tournament

The Rye High School Girls’ Basketball team outscored opponents an average of 58-21 sweeping the Centauri Girls’ High School basketball tournament last Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Winter Sports Action Kicks Off Today

The winter sports schedule begins in earnest this week with basketball and wrestling action. Today (Thursday), the basketball teams travel to Centauri for a tournament that lasts through Saturday. Early incomplete rosters listed on MaxPreps show that 13 boys are out for basketball.

Elarton and Graham Named to All-State Team; Ten Fall Athletes Honored

Morgan Elarton and Gracie Graham were selected by 2A Colorado Volleyball Coaches throughout the state to compete in the All-State game at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins which was played Sunday the 21st. The selection is done by a vote of 2A coaches and is restricted to Seniors.

Rye Volleyball Team Downs Santa Fe League Champion on Way to Fifth Place in the State

On the evening of September 2, the Rye High School Girls’ Volleyball team hosted eventual Santa Fe League champion, Fowler and lost 3-0. The loss gave the Thunderbolts a 2-3 record. The total scores of the three matches were 75- 42. Jump forward to October 14. This time the scene shifts to Fowler.

2021-22 Rye High School Wrestling Season

Wrestling Coach Billy Forell returns for his third season as the Head Coach of the Rye High School grapplers. Returning with him will be defending 182 lb. state champion Remington Peterson. Peterson is a senior.

Girls Basketball Team Looks for Return Trip to State

Rye High School Girls’ Basketball Head Coach Kermit Spencer has much to be optimistic about. Spencer, in his 5th year as Head Coach has six returning varsity players, four of whom are seniors. These girls traveled to state last year and have experience at the postseason level.

Fifth Annual Polar Plunge Will Be Held on November 20

The Fifth Annual Maggie Drew Peters Memorial Polar Plunge will take place on Saturday, November 20 at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Beckwith in Colorado City. The annual event is a scholarship fund raiser for the Rye High School graduating class of 2022.
