Rye Elementary Carnival was a Stunning Success

Everyone worked together on Thursday, March 30, to make the 2023 Rye Elementary Carnival a huge success. Students, staff, parents, and community members all plotted, planned, set up, cooked, prepared games and prizes, and worked hard to present the carnival to a packed school of happy children.

Rye Future Farmers of America (FFA) members left an impact when they attended the District Career Development Event at Lamar Community College last week. Members attending represented a wide range of agriculture education as they were entered in Ag Sales, Meat Science, Vet Science, and Floriculture.

The Greenhorn Valley Chamber of Commerce board devoted their April 3 meeting to ironing out details for the Business EXPO on Saturday, April 8. The EXPO will be held at Craver Middle School from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Beckwith Dam Project Update at CCMD Meeting

Colorado City District Manager Jim Eccher gave a Beckwith Dam Project Progress Report, sharing that he and Joshua Goodwin had met with the Colorado Water Conservation Board on March 16 for a loan process. He advised that they were granted the $3,000,000 loan during the meeting.

The picture above was taken in February, 1971, on a hot day when we stopped at a Vietnam shrine along a mountain road for a break. I am on the left, and my good buddy, Dieter Herbstler, is on the right. The third person, with the rifle, was our driver.

Mini Tornado Creates Havoc on Singer Lane

Brief but highly memorable. A mini tornado that ripped through the Singer Lane area of Rye didn’t last long, but it created havoc and destruction for those residents in its path.

VFC Continues to Serve the Community Under Patrick’s Leadership

Susan Kalman’s departure from the state for health and family reasons, left the Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community (VFC) in unfamiliar territory. Since their founding in 2009, Kalman has headed the organization.
