Rye High Boys Team Wins Two in Own Tournament

The Rye High School boys’ basketball team won two of three games last week to even their season mark at 3-3 going into the Christmas break.In the tournament they hosted, they opened with a 49-28 loss to Swallows Academy.

Wrestlers Show Well at Pete & Ina Gomez Invitational

The Rye High School wrestling team placed 18th in the 29 team Pete &n Ina Gomez Invitational held at Walsenburg Jr. Sr. High School on Saturday The Classical Academy captured the team title with 173 points. Rye scored 54 points.Skyler Moore collected 20 team points and a bronze medal in the 175 lb.

Clay Klipfel is in his maiden season as the Head Coach of the Rye High School boys basketball team. Klipfel has also coached baseball and football at RHS. He has been a head coach for four years and has coached at the high school level for a total of 10 years.The basketball team has 23 participants.

Boys Basketball Team Wins One of Three in Lamar Tournament

The Rye High School boys’ basketball team began their season with a 6A opponent from Liberal, Kansas in a tournament held in Lamar. Liberal scored at least 15 points in each quarter of the Thursday game and downed Rye 69-47.Eli Guzman, a sophomore, scored 29 points and had six rebounds.

Maroney Effort Best in RHS History

Although cross country does not do post season awards like volleyball and football it should be noted that Rye High School cross country runner David Maroney, a junior, is the highest finisher Rye has ever had on the boy’s side in the state placing 14th.

Rye Girls Win One in Lamar

The Rye High School Girls’ basketball team opened their 2024-25 season with a three-day tournament in Lamar.In the opening game they faced Granada and came out on the wrong side of the scoreboard 4318.Kelsy Stribling a senior scored six points and had five rebounds in the contest.

Wrestlers Start Season off Well

The Rye High School Wrestling team began tournament action at the Fowler Grizzly Invitational on December 7th.Home team Fowler won the 16team event with a team score of 153 points. The Rye Thunderbolts came in 8th with 74 team points.

Rye Season Ends at State Volleyball Tournament

The Rye High School volleyball team won the opening round of the State Tournament but then dropped a match to eventual state champion Sedgewick County, 3-0, and a 3-0 loss to Del Norte.Rye won their opener 3-2 over Vail Christian: 19-25, 25-16, 25--17, 17-25, and 15-9.

Maroney places 14th at Cross Country State Tournament

Junior David Maroney placed 14th in the 2A boys 5000-meter cross country race held on November 2 at Norris Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. Maroney ran the race in a time of 17:09.67 about 32 seconds slower than his 2A regional mark last week.
