Things didn’t end the way Rye High School volleyball coach Michelle Roy hoped but was proud of the way the team ended the 2022 volleyball season.
“We didn’t finish out how we had hoped,” shared Roy.
“We knew both Yuma and North Fork were going to be tough matches especially with Jordan (Holgerson) out.
Both teams had good blockers at the net and scrappy defenses. We had a hard time adjusting and were constantly playing catch up in each set. We struggled with putting together enough points to get in the lead and maintain it. That being said, all of the girls worked hard and left it all on the court. Even with the season ending at regionals, I am so proud of what they all accomplished this season.”
Rye dropped both matches 3-1. Additional statistics were not available at press time.
“As for this season,” Roy continued, “If you think about it this was another year of adjustments. The last two years these girls have had to play in the “Covid era” of masking, quarantines and shortened seasons, and then this year was an entire new coaching staff. It took a little bit before the girls settled into a new routine but once they did, they really started to shine. Each and every one showed great improvements this season and we are already looking towards next year. My two seniors, Kaitlyn Taylor and Brianna Prichard split time this season as middle blocker. Even with them splitting time both girls had great attitudes and worked hard all season.”
Rye was ranked in the top 15 all season long and were runner ups in the tough Santa Fe League. Late season injuries to Holgerson effected the last fourth of the season.
Rye finished the season with a 16-9 record.
