Sophomores Avery Velez, and Mazzy Miller each scored a goal, and almost the entire Rye High School team got into the game as the Lady T’s downed Florence on the road 2-1 in girls’ soccer. As the score would indicate the match was close throughout the entire contest. At half, the score was deadlocked 1-1, but a second half goal improved Rye’s record to 2-3. Miller had an assist in addition to her goal which she scored with three total shots on goal, had an assist. Velez got her goal in four shots on goal. Brianna Prichard had the other assist.
Desiree Ruiz had six steals and Kayla Pollock had four steals in the victory. Stephanie Bak guarded the nets and had eight saves.
“We played really well,” assessed Head Coach Mike Wing. “Originally this had been scheduled as a Junior Varsity contest but got changed to varsity action. We took 30 kids and most of them got some playing time.
Rye faced Atlas Prep in Colorado Springs on Tuesday which will be reported next week. Friday the JV will play Buena Vista and on Saturday the varsity will face Salida.
All three contest are on the road.
Rye is currently ranked 17th in 2A.
