Rye Soccer Knocks Off #5 Team

The Rye High School girls’ soccer team knocked off the #5 team in 2A soccer on the 2nd of April when they downed Thomas MacLaren on the road 2-0.

Angelina Atencio scored both goals on six shots taken. Averi Velez and Dani Frick each got an assist.

Meanwhile in goal, Stephanie Bak had nine saves in registering the shut out.

Three days later Rye gave #1 ranked Lamar all they could handle but fell 2-0.

“We played well all week,” shared Head Coach John Crowell, “but were very impressive in the loss to Lamar.”

Bak had 21 saves against the Lamar squad, while giving up the two goals.

Then the next day on April 6, Rye hosted Florence and scored four goals in the first half and downed the Huskies 5-1. Atencio scored two goals and had an assist. Velez scored a goal and had three assists in the match.

Bak nearly had her second shut out of the week, allowing the lone goal and having five saves.

Rye is 3-3 on the season and 10 in league play.

Rye travels to Atlas Prep (1-5) on Tuesday and hosts Salida (43) on Saturday. Rye is ranked #12 in 2A. Salida is ranked #12 in 3A and Atlas Prep is ranked #37 in 3A.
