Rye Girls Continue Rebuilding Year

The Rye High School Girls’ basketball team dropped a pair of games and move into the final week of the season continuing to focus on building for the future.

Without a single senior, and dealing with a series of injuries, the Lady T’s dropped a pair of games this week.

On the 10th they traveled to Peyton to meet #1 3A girls’ team in the state. Peyton lived up to their building and continued their undefeated streak downing Rye 70-4. Sady Stinchcomb and Lacie Laca each scored a basket for Rye. Laca also had three rebounds.

Gracie Briggs had five rebounds to lead the Rye team and Morgan Gallegos got a steal and Emmyle Varner blocked a shot. Rye shot 8% from the field and did not hit a free throw.

On the 11th Rye was again on the road and traveled to Manitou Springs where they lost 21-49.

Olivia Donlon scored half a dozen points, and Laca had 11 rebounds. Stephanie Bak had four points, and Kelsy Stribling pulled down seven rebounds.

Hailey George had two steals and Briggs had two assists. Rye hit 16% of their shots from the field and 63% of their shots from the line.

Monday night Rye traveled to James Irwin (2-14) and on Wednesday they traveled to Banning Lewis (7-10). Friday night they conclude their season when they travel to Rocky Ford (9-8).

Rye currently has a 2-14 record. The current Rye squad has five juniors, two who are injured and aren’t available to play, six sophomores and four freshmen.
