Golf Team Ends Regular Season with Bronze Medal

The regular season for the Rye High School Boys’ Golf Team ended with a pair of tournaments this last week.

On September 7th the team attended the Rocky Ford Invitational tournament.

The Thunderbolts placed 4th in the tournament.

Swink took home the team title.

Markus Anglin led the Rye team with a 13th place finish, shooting an 88. Axton Ehrlich came in 19th one stroke behind Anglin at 89.

Anthony Hutcheson and Branson Burbidge tied for 18th with scores of 95.

Medalist for the tournament was Damien Baca of Las Animas who shot a 72.

“We played well,” shared first year Head Coach Phillip Spicer. “Practice is paying off. The boys are having a lot of fun and are continuing to improve.”

On September 12th at the Rye Invitational the host Thunderbolts placed third.

Anglin led the team again with a 4th place finish and a score of 93. Hutcheson placed 5th with a score of 96. Ehrlich was 9th place with a score of 97. Nicolas Goldberg finished 16th at 112, and Cole Cooper was 17th with a score of 116.

Baca of Las Animas was again the medalist with a score of 76. Cheyenne Wells captured the team title.

Head Coach Spicer was positive about the regular season. “It was a great golf season. The boys learned a lot about the game of golf.

Now we will begin preparing for regionals which will be held at Cortez this year.”
