Baseball Team Wins Opener on the Road

The Rye High School baseball team traveled to Colorado Springs Christian on the 18th and opened the season with a 7-5 victory. The host school led on two different occasions but the T-bolts tied the game in the top of the 7th with a pair of runs and won the game in the top of the ninth with two more runs. Junior Riley Rochester drove in three runs in the contest, had a pair of hits, including a double and stole a base. Rochester also worked an inning on the mound, allowing three runs on one hit in the bottom of the fifth. Rochester walked three and struck out one in his initial outing of the season.

Taye McCauley, a junior, drove in a pair of runs and had a pair of hits, including a double. McCauley was also flawless in the field handling seven opportunities and turning them into sevenouts.

Ben Compton scored a pair of runs and stole a base. The senior also collected the victory with 4 and 2/3 innings work on the mound. While pitching he allowed three hits and a lone run. Compton struck out four in collecting his first victory of the year.

Brock Benz also saw mound action working three and one third innings. Benz allowed one hit and one run, walked five and struck out six.

Will Hamler had an excellent day in the field handling 13 opportunities, collecting 12 put outs and one assist. Aydin Swald scored a pair of runs.

Head Coach Clay Klipfel did not respond to questions about the game by press time.

The Thunderbolts will appear at home for the first time this season on Saturday with a noon time double header scheduled against Rocky Ford.
