The sun is shining on a neater, cleaner Greenhorn Valley after the amazing Community Cleanup, Saturday, May 11.
Valley First, set on bettering the community, partnered to bring the Community Clean-up back to the Greenhorn Valley. This group took care of organizing and advertising for the event and had numerous volunteers available to help with everything from directing traffic to unloading.
The Colorado City Metropolitan District provided the place and many of the hard-working individuals who unloaded the vehicles. District Manager Jim Eccher was right in there unloading vehicles and filling dumpsters.
San Isabel Electric supplied a huge chipper and truck to dispose of tree branches, and the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment also helped.
The entire event was free to residents thanks to the amazing support of the sponsors.
The Clean-Up was well organized at its new location this year. Kudos to all the volunteers from all the organizations who showed up in the rain and mud and spent the morning working so drivers didn’t need to leave their vehicles before they were unloaded.
All seven dumpsters were filled to the brim with furniture, mattresses, box springs, and other large, bulky trash items. A dumpster for scrap iron was filled, a lot of old tires were gathered, and a bunch of branches were reduced to mulch in just a few short hours.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the clean-up was not able to take used oil this year. However, they provided the information that Pueblo Recycleworks is having an oil drop on May 18 and July 27 for Pueblo County residents at no cost.
