Mountainview Family Baptist Church wants to get to know people in the Greenhorn Valley community, and let people get to know them as well . One of the youngest churches in the Valley meeting in a non-traditional unmarked church, it is easy to overlook this great group. However, chat with some of the members for just a little while and you can see how happy they are to be a part of this group and how friendly they are.
The church was started in 2018 by just five families who felt a calling for a different kind of church. These families united as believers and are increasingly happy with the results.
One of the main focuses of this church is family. All of the founding families felt that it was important that families worship together, which is what they do each Sunday. Children are not separated; they attend the same service and learn the same lessons as the adults.
Tommy Byrd, spokesperson for the church, shared, “It helps our children to see that we live what we are taught in church, they hear the lessons and learn the same as we do.
Then they can see it is something we do all week, not just for a few hours in church.”
The Mountainview Church has grown slowly, by design.
They haven’t done a lot of advertising, mostly relying on word of mouth and members inviting others that they think would be a good fit for the group. Bill Burnett, Pastor and founder of the church said, “We want to include people who are sincere about their relationship, people who want to know Jesus. One of our goals is to bring people who belong here and let them reach out to others that might belong, also.”
Members understand that their more casual family-style form of worship may not be for everyone, but they enjoy being able to attend church in their jeans or shorts, listen and learn while eating breakfast, and learn through music that coincides with the weekly lesson.
In keeping with the small groups' casual approach, they have many different fun community events that the church sponsors to get to know the community members.
Friday Fun Days are one of their current activities, with the last one scheduled for this season to be held on Friday, July 21. These days are focused on entertaining youngsters and are held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Greenhorn Meadows Park.
Christine Byrd and Bekah Moore plan activities for the Friday Fun Days. The July 21 Fun Day is “messy day” and the ladies guarantee that the children will be messy and have had fun at the end of the activity. As they said, “You can always hose your child down.”
All of the church members that possibly can, will attend the Friday Fun Days, not only because they are fun, but to help with the event.
The members want to make sure there are people available to run the games, pass out otter pops, and visit with the families attending and make them feel welcome.
Ultimate Frisbee on Sundays at 5:00 p.m. in Greenhorn Meadows Park is another activity sponsored by the Mountainview Family Church. All ages and all skill levels play together.
They also offer a lady’s game night on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. This is welcome to all ladies and many different types of card and dice games are played. You do not have to be a member of the church to attend and have fun.
Through the winter the church also sponsors a lady’s craft night once a month that is open to all ages and to any female interested.
Men's group activities are being looked into to get started.
The Mountainview Family Church meets each Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the Nomad Group building located at 7305 State Hwy 165. Attire is casual and friendliness is abundant.
