RYE FIIRE PROTECTION DISTRICST
Despite the surprising upheaval and the resignation of a board member at the last Rye Fire Protection District (RFPD) meeting, the special RFPD meeting on January 23 moved along much as usual.
With a short agenda for this special meeting, the submitted resignation of board member Richard McMorran was briefly discussed. Board member Wallace Rice made a motion to accept the resignation and send McMorran a thank you letter acknowledging his time and service on the RFPD board. The attorney for RFPD, who was in attendance at the meeting, advised the board they did not have to accept the resignation and that he would discuss that in the executive session. The motion was then canceled by Rice and remade to simply send a thank you letter to McMorran.
A detailed treasurer's report was reviewed, and an explanation of the audit status and the expiration of the audit extension was explained. Rice and Fire Chief Steve Bennett explained no further action can be done on the audit by RFPD, the auditor just needs the information provided by CPA Mark Paolucci so they can finish and submit the audit. Rice explained that the tax revenue funds that are being held will be released to RFPD as soon as the audit requirements are met.
Bennett introduced Chris Dowell, a Certified Public Accountant, to the board.
After reviewing several candidates, Dowell was Bennett’s top choice to become the new CPA for the board.
Dowell was in attendance to be interviewed by the board.
The board went into an executive session with the attorney to review accounting matters and discuss filling the vacancy on the board.
