VFC Hopes to Use Community Center

SANGRE DE CRISTO VOLUNTEERS FOR COMMUNITY

The Sangre de Cristo Volunteers for Community (VFC) held their open Board Meeting on January 18.

Amidst the discussion, were various ways they could increase the use of the Susan Kalman Peaks to Prairie Community Center.

The building is currently being used for a donationbased yoga class and was recently used for an organization’s annual meeting. The VFC board discussed ways to promote use, increase classes, and have events each month.

Upcoming classes or clinics are being arranged in partnership with the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment.

VFC Board President Judith Patrick announced plans for a community-wide Potluck Dinner on February 18. Everyone is invited to come and explore the amazing new community center, enjoy a potluck meal, and socialize with other Greenhorn Valley residents.

Brad and Lauren Azuremar from the Greenhorn Chamber of Commerce attended the meeting and contributed some ideas about how the Chamber and VFC might work together.

Azuremars also introduced Jesse White of We Are Farmily, who would like to improve the community garden beds, help provide seeds, and information for growing food in memory of his late wife, Jenn White.

The VFC board discussed renewing the memorandum of understanding with the Colorado City Metropolitan District regarding the community garden. Master gardener Margaret Barber, who is in charge of the community garden, offered assistance to those interested in working in the garden.

Patrick is working on a VFC newsletter for the first quarter of 2023, the VFC website and Facebook page are being updated; and this meeting was the first VFC meeting available via Zoom.

Blast text or email messages were discussed and will be researched.
