RIVER OF LIFE ASSEMBLY OF GOD CHURCH
Seems like politics can bring out the worst in just about every community or group of people. Families have divided, churches have split, and friends have parted as a result of arguments over who should be in office, what proposition, or law should be supported and what party is right.
Christians often find themselves in the middle of these debates and hear words such as “separation of church and state” or “religion and politics don’t mix”.
The question is, “Is that really true”? Are we to be silent during these times or should we become aggressive in our response?
Oddly enough, I see that even though we have the right to express our beliefs, our motives should always be based upon what drives our faith. It is who we believe to be the Savior of the world, who is the solution to all the problems that humanity deals with. Matthew 6:33 tells us that we should… “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.”
We seem to believe that we have control over our destiny here on earth and that we can manage the success and health of our country. I think Nebuchadnezzar would disagree with you: Daniel 4:34– 35 At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my reason returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and praised and honored Him who lives forever, for His dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom endures from generation to generation; 35 all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, and He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay His hand or say to Him, “What have you done?”
We must come to grips with the understanding that our government cannot save us! We never read in the New Testament of Jesus or any of the apostles teaching believers on how to reform the pagan world of its idolatrous, immoral, and corrupt practices through the government. Neither Jesus or the apostles called for believers to demonstrate civil disobedience to protest the Roman Empire’s unjust laws or brutal schemes. Instead, the apostles commanded the first-century Christians, and us as well, to proclaim the gospel and live lives that give clear evidence to the gospel’s transforming power.
I leave you with this: Make your stand for godly principles, vote for what is morally and biblically right and love even those who disagree with your faith and your politics!
