Volleyball Team Downs Rocky Ford and Swink

In the words of Girls’ Volleyball Head Coach Michelle Roy, “the girls showed up ready to play this week.”

And play they did, picking up their 9th and 10th wins of the season and solidifying their hold on second place in the tough Santa Fe League with a three-set victory over Rocky Ford and a 3-1 victory over Swink.

On the 27th of September, the Thunderbolts downed Rocky Ford on the road 2512; 25-12; and 25-11.

Jordan Holgerson had 13 kills, 17 digs and six service receptions in the victory. Jakie Newitt had a pair of service aces and 30 assists, and Desiree Ruiz logged 20 digs and 18 service receptions.

Kelsy Stribling had nine kills in the victory and Isabella Bond had a half dozen blocks. Mackenzie Indgjer had eight assists.

“We did our best serving of the year against Rocky Ford,” assessed Roy.

Last Thursday night on the home court Rye defeated Swink 25-21; 25-15, 20-25; and 25-22 to move their league record to 8-1 and 10-4 overall.

Holgerson had 17 kills, a pair of service aces, 16 digs and 18 service receptions. Stribling had 14 kills and also a pair of service aces.

“Swink was a little more challenging for us,” shared Roy. “But the girls kept pushing and encouraging each other even when they dropped the third set.”

Newitt also had a pair of service aces and 27 assists. Indgjer had a pair of service aces and 13 assists and Ruiz had 22 digs and 35 service receptions.

Seine Roy had a pair of service aces; Bond had half a dozen blocks and Brianna Prichard had a pair of blocks.

“This week is homecoming week,” stated Roy. “Tuesday we are home vs Hoehne who is third in the league. This should be a good match up and we are looking to come away with another win.”

Those results will be in the View next week.

Rye is currently ranked 11th in 2A by Max Preps and tied for 15th in the CHSAA rankings.
