For the second week in a row the Rye Thunderbolt football team rolled over their opponent with a convincing 56-12 win over Trinidad on the road. The junior varsity got in a lot of playing time as a dozen different T-Bolts logged yardage in the game in which Rye led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter and 49-6 at halftime.
“Trinidad was a good opportunity to work on some things and improve,” shared Head Football Coach Conner Pigg. “It was good to see the number of people who got touches.”
Nolan Schauer threw for three touchdowns and Rye ran for four other touchdowns in the victory. Schauer connected on 13 of 18 passes for 251 yards. Derick Bak was on the receiving end of three of those passes for a team leading 63 yards. Taye McCauley caught four passes for 57 yards and a touchdown. McCauley also had one of the four touchdowns on the ground.
Freshman Dayton Blok led the rushers with three carries for 43 yards. Derick Bak toted the ball four times for 40 yards and scored a touchdown. Bak led the team in total yards with 116 yards which included a 13-yard interception return. Caleb Hurne racked up 39 yards on only two carries and also scored a touchdown.
Samuel Adams, Dylan Hurne, and Devin Samuelson all had four tackles, one of those by Hurne was a sack.
Two kickers were a perfect six for six on point after kicks.
Rye is now 3-1 for the year and begin league action this week when they travel to Ellicott, who hasn’t won a game. Rye continues to be ranked 15th by Max Preps in 1A football.
