“Pueblo Central is a 4A school,” shared Head Coach Michelle Roy. “We started flat in that match up and didn’t start playing like I know we can until the third set. Our 16 serving errors on the night killed us. At that level of play we have to get our serves in in order to compete.”

Kendall Himmelberg had six kills and 12 service receptions. Seine Roy, a freshman, had three service aces and four digs. Holgerson had a dozen kills, and Kaitlyn Taylor had five blocks. Newitt had 18 assists, and Ruiz had 15 service receptions in the non-league loss.

In the final game of the week on the 10th of September, Rye returned home and downed league opponent Las Animas 25-20, 25-12, and 25-16 to maintain a perfect 4-0 record in league.

Roy assessed the league play, “Our games against John Mall and Las Animas gave us two more league wins. Even though we won both we still have room for improvements, mainly communication and maintaining a high level of play set to set. “ Holgerson had nine kills and five service aces. Newitt had four aces and 10 assists. Bond had three blocks, and Ruiz had four digs and 10 service receptions.

Rye hosted Crowley County Tuesday night and Saturday will travel to Holly. Both are league matches.

“This week we will focus on the mental aspects of the game,” shared Roy. “These girls are talented and know how to play, they just need to work on maintaining a high level of play/intensity while having fun no matter who’s on either side of the court. “

Rye is currently ranked 7th in the state in 2A play by Max Preps. CHSAA has Rye ranked 4th through September 6.
