Rye High School’s Markus Anglin placed 26th with a score of 93 at the Alamosa Invitational Golf Tournament held last Friday at the Alamosa Cattails Golf Course. Anglin was the top finisher for the Thunderbolts in a tournament won by Montezuma Cortez.
Thayer Plewer of the winning school was the medalist with a score of 69.
Branson Burbidge of Rye shot a 106 which was good for 41st place and teammates Anthony Hutcheson placed 44th with a score of 107, and Axton Ehrlich shot a 111 for 49th place.
“I am very proud of our young team,” shared Head Coach Phillip Spicer. “They are growing fast. This was Branson and Axton’s first tournament. I thought they played very well.”
Spicer said his team needs to work on their short game and that putting and chipping needs to improve.
“Alamosa is a tough course to play,” Spicer assessed. “The team has nothing to hang their heads about. I am very proud to have them representing Rye High School.”
Rye played yesterday (Wednesday) at the Walking Stick Golf Course in Pueblo as the competed in the Centennial High School Invitational. That ends action for them for the rest of the month.
