School‘s donation of $2,548.00 from Father John Powers Memorial was explained by Skyview's principal, Wendy James. The funds will be used to purchase Promethean boards and seven projectors.
Pueblo County High School received a total donation of $840.00 from Donna Cox, Shawn and Doreen Martinez, Ronald Lee, Jim Relich, and Keith Lorinson for the girl’s soccer team as explained by Dennis Downs, Athletic Director, and Coach Bailey Thomas.
Erin Lewin of Pueblo County High School told of $3,000 in scholarship funds donated by Darwin Hansen and Craig Law.
Bond Project Manager Ted Ortiviz advised that Phase 2 of the bond project work is ready to begin. He stated, “We are working to get contractors under contract to start Phase 2. We will be doing a lot of this work over the summer while the kids are on break. Earthwork, drive paths, bus loops, and parent drop-offs will be starting soon. We have five roofs scheduled during the summer also: Craver, North Mesa, South Mesa, Liberty Point, and Beulah.”
A presentation of the new policy regarding UAS Drones was given by Tim Yates who discussed training, and insurance requirements for drone pilots to film on D70 school grounds. The policy was created in response to competing schools and private residents wanting to be able to film high school football games.
Dr. Anthony Martinez was named and received the board's approval as the new Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
D70’s Director During the May 17, Pueblo District 70 School Board meeting, Ronda Rein advised the board of a grant received from the Career Development Incentive Program. The grant is to help with the certification programs offered to D70 high school students to allow them to earn college credits while in high school. The grant was given to D70 in two parts; the first of $42,102.99 and the second part was $29,896.84, for a total of nearly $72,000 towards the Career Development Incentive Program.
More good news was shared for the certification programs, as Rein let the board know that the Pueblo County Commissioners approved funding so that those students who did not have transportation to Pueblo Community College to attend one of the certifications programs could be provided with transportation. Skyview Middle of Personnel, Stephanie Russell, named Chris Slobodnik as the new Assistant Director of Student Services.
The D70 Board will meet Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. for a special meeting to approve the 2022-2023 budget. at the Educational Services Center, 24951 East Highway 50, Pueblo, Colorado. The next regular D70 Board Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the same location and beginning at 6:00 p.m.
