About 25 people attended the Valera-Ambler Fund raiser held at the Greenhorn Valley Library on Saturday, April 30. In addition to the guests of honor, County Clerk and Recorder candidate Serena Adame and Michelle Gray who is running for Pueblo County Treasurer were in attendance.
Local resident Laura Sperry opened the event with an invocation. Stephen Varela, veteran and candidate for Senate District 3 stepped up to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
In his comments, Varela, reiterated the importance of involvement by the electorate with representative leadership. He stressed the need for neighbors once again to become connected on a personal friendship level as well as for open, free discussion of issues affecting the community and state.
A few of his key interests in holding office as Senator for District 3 included his concern for business development to provide employment opportunities for graduates who wish to remain in Pueblo. His concerns for Veterans affairs, education, protection of children & parents’ rights were also high on his list of priorities. Right to life for the unborn is another integral part of his values platform.
Jonathan Ambler, Candidate for Colorado House District 46 voiced his concerns about public education. He expressed concern about all the variance that modern education has incorporated, including radical sexualization instruction and Critical Race Theory which he highlighted in his comments.
Ambler also discussed, the recent radical abortion legislation that was brought forward by the current legislature. He spoke of the broad overreach of government on many levels.
One of the key goals for Ambler is to limit the amount of money that come into Colorado from outside sources like Washington DC California and New York. H is currently finalizing a ballo measure with the Secretary o State that will be placed on the November ballot when the necessary number of signatures are gathered from around the state. The ballot measure would ensure that the candidates represent those who live in their districts rather than be influenced by large contributions coming from outside donors.
Both candidates expressed their goal of serving & representing those who send them to the Colorado State House. Even though, neither Varela nor Ambler has a primary challenger, they ask that those who share their views and concerns vote in the Primary Election scheduled for June 28th.
