Long-Awaited FFA Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry is Back

It’s back! The Rye High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Rocky Mountain Oyster Fry is back. Finally, after two years, the long-awaited oyster fry and labor auction will be held on March 16. All you can eat Rocky Mountain Oysters and chicken tenders, with the country, side dishes of beans and coleslaw, plus dessert, will be served at 6:00 p.m. at Rye High School.

Tickets for the event are $10 each and are available from any FFA member or from FFA advisor Ethan Beeman at 719-252-2911.

A silent auction with a wide variety of donated and hand-crafted items will be held during and following the oyster fry dinner. There are many great items to choose from as well as certificates for use at area businesses.

Eight labor hours for each of thirty-one students will also be auctioned off following the dinner. The purchaser will have one year to use the eight hours of labor they purchase unless the member is a senior. For senior students labor must be used before graduation day, May 27, 2022.

The labor donated for auction will contribute to the groups trip to the Denver National Western Stock Show in January. The students commit to helping out with ranch, farm, or home chores in exchange for expenses that occurred during this trip.

Eight Rye FFA students attended the San Isabel District 5 speech contest. Lacie Laca received third place in the competition. Jeb Laca, Addyson Mittlestadt, Cody Dodge, Chase Robinson, Gwennie Larson, Kelsy Stribling, Kenzie Nielson, and Lacie Laca made up the team.

On February 22, the Rye FFA members donned their chef’s hats to show appreciation to the Rye High School teachers. FFA members arrived at the school at 5:30 a.m. and by 7:00 a.m. had a tasty sausage, bacon, egg, and pancake breakfast ready to serve. It was the members' way of saying “Thank You” to the RHS staff that supports them and the FFA way of life.
