The Rye High School Girls’ Volleyball team took the floor today at approximately 12:30 at the Broadmoor World Arena to face Limon in the first round of the 2A volleyball state tournament. Coach Donlon and her Thunderbolts are seeded #7 in the tournament and are fighting #10 seed Limon for the opportunity to face #2 seed Meeker who got a first round bye.
The T-bolts made the trip after a dominant pair of victories in the Thunderdome last Saturday, downing Olathe and Calhan to clinch the bid to the state tournament.
The Rye girls downed Olathe in three straight sets: 25-19, 25-18, and 25-17. Jordan Holgerson had seven kills, two service aces, 20 digs, and 13 service receptions in the victory. Sophie Adamson had 11 kills, and Morgan Elarton had 18 assists. Jaklyn Newitt added 14 assists of her own and Gracie Graham had 17 service receptions.
Several hours later it took the Thunderbolts four sets to eliminate #17 ranked Calhan: 25-11, 22-25, 25-17, and 25- 11.
Elarton had three blocks, 18 digs, and 25 assists. Holgerson had a dozen kills, two aces, 20 digs, and 13 service receptions. Sophie Adamson loomed large at the net with 15 kills in the contest.
Sydney Adamson had a dozen kills and six blocks. Newitt contributed 18 assists and Graham had 18 digs and 20 service receptions.
Limon is 15-10 on the season while the Thunderbolts are 20-5. Limon finished second in the Union Pacific League. Meeker finished 24- 1 and won the Western Slope League.
Santa Fe League’s Hoehne is seeded #9, and Fowler is seeded #3. Top seed Sedgwick County is 21-3, and will face the winner of Hoehne and #8 seed Denver Christian.
