PUEBLO CITY COUNTY LIBRARY DISTRICST
Pueblo City-County Library District is partnering up to host an event to assist students. Any student K-12 in Pueblo County is welcome to attend the Backpack Giveaway and Resource Fair that will be held at the Pueblo Mall on Saturday, July 15. The event will be held in the hallway near the interior entrance to Dillard's from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Students will receive free backpacks and free school supplies from community vendors during the event.
In addition to the backpacks and supplies, Blended Barber and Beauty are offering free basic haircuts for students 18 years of age or younger.
Nick Potter, Executive Director of Community Relations for the Pueblo City-County Library District, advises, “Come early! The backpacks are just great and go very quickly. Quantities are limited and will be handed out on a first-come, firstserved basis, while supplies last.”
Potter shared that over 800 backpacks filled with supplies were given out at last year’s event and they did run out. They have over 1000 backpacks to offer this year.
Statistics show that, on average, families spend between $700 and $864 on school supplies each year; and, nationwide, one in five school-aged children live in poverty. Backpack giveaways are a great way to get supplies needed for the upcoming school year and help keep family costs down. Potter shared that this event was the brainchild of the Kiwanis Club of Pueblo who outlined it and invited others to join in to make the event bigger and better.
Sponsors of the event are Blended Barber and Beauty; Catholic Charities of Southern Colorado, Haven School of Dance; Kiwanis Club of Pueblo; Minnequa Works Credit Union; Pueblo Mall; City of Pueblo Parks and Recreation; Summit Brick Company; Pueblo YMCA; GOAL High School and Pueblo Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Students must be present at the Backpack Giveaway to receive their items and it is one backpack per student, while supplies last.
