James Hulbert and his dad, James Rosenburg, came to Colorado City from Rolla, Missouri where he graduated from high school and lived most of his life. And before we go any further, you may also want to know that there are actually about four or five generations of Hulbert’s/Rosenburg’s , with the first name of the oldest male as James.
So how did James decide to start James and Son Plumbing in Colorado City? Well, you only have to talk to James for about five minutes before you realize he is all about family. It was quite normal for him, his dad, and younger brother to pick up and move closer to his aging Uncle and Aunt, Fred and Carolyn Ettleman.
After a brief stop in Denver, 2020-21, to apprentice under his father in the plumbing business, James began business, locally, in April of this year.
It was a natural thing to learn plumbing from his father who has nearly 20 years’ experience, and who learned the trade from his father, and his father, and… you get the picture.
In fact, it was his father who provided the biggest impetus to become a plumber. “It’s something we can do together,” shared James. “It provides a good living, it’s something we can do ourselves; and it gives me something my dad left me and I can leave my son.”
Son Brody is nine years old, and Hulbert and his ex-wife are expecting a daughter.
With the exception of cleaning drains, James and Sons does about anything that has to do with plumbing. They do new construction, remodels, plumbing repairs and will install hot water heaters.
“Compared to some of the other construction trades,” shared Hulbert, “we are able to go in for two or three days, do our thing and move on to something else. Of course, you get pretty dirty doing what we do, but it is still not all that bad.”
“I just want people to know that we are friendly, familyoriented, and will answer the phone nights and weekends,” shared Hulbert. “If you have an emergency, we’ll come help you take care of it.”
When he isn’t working, Hulbert’s hobbies also revolve around family. “I love to hunt, fish and play golf,” he shared. “In fact, one of our customers right now is the LaVeta golf course. We are trying to get them up and running.”
Hulbert may be working at LaVeta but he enjoys playing golf at Hollydot. “It’s really a nice golf course.”
James, his father, son and brother (Nathan, age 11) live in a four-plex near ‘Uncle Fred’s State Farm office’. James and his father purchased it and occupy one of the apartments.
“If we can help you out, just give us a call at (719) 778- 0825,” he concluded. “We are your neighbors and we care.”
