Colorado City/Rye Lions Award Scholarships

The Colorado City/Rye Lions Club attended the Rye High School Senior Awards ceremony on May 18, 2022 and were proud to award three $1,000 scholarships to the following seniors:

Will Fikan: This student has lettered seven consecutive times in academics and is in the STEP program. He gives back to his community and school in a variety of ways including serving as an officer in both the local FFA and National Honor Society, a member of the student council and mentoring students throughout the school as a LINK Leader and serving his community as a member of Leo’s Club for our local Lion’s Club. He will be attending CSU-Pueblo and will pursue a career in the healthcare field. He has volunteered over 200 hours at Parkview Medical Center. He hopes to work at Parkview while attending CSU-Pueblo, and his end goal is to earn his M.D. and specialize in cardiac anesthesia.

Haven Nelson: This student plays a leadership role by serving as secretary of the local Technology Student Assoc., is a member of the Leo’s for our local Lion’s Club and participates in the Boys & Girls Club. She has also volunteered and worked with the Program Manager of the Department of Veterans Affairs in the Veterans Homelessness Program for approximately three years. She plans on attending Regis University and pursuing her bachelor’s degree in psychology in hopes of receiving her PhD in Clinical Psychology. Her ultimate goal in life is to provide help to this nation’s Veterans.

Micah DiMatteo: This student is treasurer of the Rye High School chapter of FFA, the parliamentarian of the local National Honor Society, President of the Leo’s Club for our local Lion’s Club, Vice President of the Rye High Student Council and a leader for Sources of Strength and LINK. He has a passion for sports and sports media and has helped to form allsportsculture, a sports media company. This student is looking to obtain a degree in sports managements or journalism.
