Brock Russell Purchases Established Dave’s Pump Service

Brock Russell worked for Dave Volentine for eight or nine years; and in October of last year Volentine gave Russell the opportunity to purchase Dave’s Pump Service. He didn’t hesitate in buying the business.

Russell grew up in Pueblo and graduated from Pueblo County High School before he moved to the valley in 2011. He has a wife, Hali, a three-year-old son, Blaze, and a nine-month-old little girl named Lydia.

If it involves water, Russell can probably take care of it for you. He does repair of wells, pumps, and cisterns. He has the mechanical aptitude to take care of anything that has to do with water along with skill in plumbing and the electrical aspects of his trade.

When it’s a two-man job, Russell is able to call on his old boss, Volentine, to lend a hand.

There is someone who does the same thing that Russell does in every rural community in southern Colorado, but Russell believes that he separates himself from the pack. “I answer my phone and show up when I’m supposed to,” he shared. “Service calls have priorities over jobs. If your out of water I drop what I’m doing and make sure you get water. I work when people need me. I’m available, and that includes nights and weekends.”

When he isn’t working, Russell is about family. His wife, Hali, breaks colts and rodeos when she has a chance. They all ride horses and love to play in the water. One set of grandparents live down the next drive on Old San Isabel Road and the other set live in Pueblo.

“Blaze is quite a rider already,” shares his proud father. “He gets after it. He’ll try to ride anything he can crawl up on. He’s an outdoor boy and it’s a lot of fun.”

Although he began as owner of the business at the tale end of the COVID pandemic, it was a good thing for Russell. “People wanted to improve things and most times I didn’t see my customers. I worked when they were at work and we hardly came in contact.” He continued, “People have

He continued, “People have got to have water. As people made improvements, I did a lot of well testing; and when they bought new homes, I was involved in that. I fared well and am so blessed to have been able to take care of my family during those crazy times.”

“Family is the most important thing, and having time with them is the best thing you can be doing,” shared Russell.

Originally, Russell and I had planned to talk Monday morning, but it was delayed until Monday evening. One of his cousins passed away from a stroke in the middle of the night, and he and his family attended the funeral Monday morning.

“It was hard at the funeral watching his wife and children,” shared Russell. “It makes you want to tighten your hold on your loved ones and hold on a little longer,” he sighed.
