Valley Community Church Invitation to Summer Vacation Bible School

COLORADO CITY, COLORADO

The Valley Community Church, 4253 Mercantile St., Colorado City, is hoping to host between 60-80 children from age four through fifth grade, July 22-26 from 9:00 a.m. until noon each day.

The event is their summer Vacation Bible School which, according to first year Director, Bobbi Kawasaki, will find the kids singing catchy songs, doing science fun experiments, playing teamwork-building games, experiencing one of a kind Bible adventure, collecting Bible Memory Buddies, and probably finding a snack or two as they learn about Jesus.

The event is open to everyone in the community and is free of charge, despite the quality materials and manpower involved to make it happen.

“It is an amazing ministry,” shared Kawasaki. “We explore diving into a friendship with God with a lot of interesting lessons we can learn from the sea creatures in the oceans.”

In fact, the event is called SCUBA. And through daily lessons the children learn to look for and find evidence of God all around them.

Each day a specific Bible point will be shared with the children and all points are indicators of the existence of God and ways to draw closer to Him through Jesus Christ.

About 40 volunteers, from several churches in the valley, will guide your child through a stepby- step program which leaves room for personal flair from each teacher. In addition to teachers, people will steer your child from the four different stations, connected together by the Bible point of the day.

Each day concludes with a Fintastic finale that gets everyone involved in living what they’ve learned.

Kids will join a missions effort called Kids Reaching Kids in Hard Places. This mission project will open kids’ eyes to see beyond themselves, shape kids’ hearts to mirror God’s heart for the world, and provide kids a chance share the gospel with kids living in hard places.

“My story of faith is a simple one,” shared Kawasaki. “My mom (Betty Gillespie) was the leader of VBS here at Valley Community. We were a Christian home and, at age eight, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. I stayed the course and walked with the Lord. I grew through Vacation Bible School, Bible Studies as I got older and church. I want to share that with others.”

Kawasaki was living in California, but moved back to help take care of her dad after her mom’s death. Upon her return she immediately got back into life at Valley Community Church.

Friday night, July 26, from 67:00 p.m. the families of the children are invited to come and see what their children have been doing for the week. One of the highlights will be videos of their children during the week, as well as a chance to meet the people who have been teaching and interacting with their children.

“I hope everyone gets their child to VBS,” opined Kawasaki.

“We have such a passion for them to desire to know Jesus.”

Kawasaki paused, “God is real. the evidence is all around.”
