District 70 Community Affairs Coordinator to Run for County Commissioner

Roxanne "Roxy" Pignanelli, the government and community affairs coordinator for School District 70, announced this week that she will be running for the District 3 seat on the Pueblo Board of County Commissioners.

"I do a great deal of work in the community and I have since I returned 20 years ago," Pignanelli said. "I work with teen suicide prevention, I work with education, I'm the legislative and community affairs director for District 70."

In addition to the infrastructure development that has been a large part of the current commissioners' work, she said, her focus will be on human restoration — ensuring that education, social services and more are all working to assist Puebloans as much as possible as they continue to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

"Not only are we building the infrastructure in capital, in buildings and that restoration, but we have a parallel effort to bringing people back after COVID-19 and helping them as this town grows, so that they're living as well and that they're able to flourish," Pignanelli said. "We're not developing the health and well-being of our people because we're so busy trying to build the town up — which is essential, but it needs a balance and I think I could bring that balance," she said.

Pignanelli is seeking the seat currently held by Commissioner Chris Wiseman, who announced last year that he would not be seeking reelection in order to spend more time with his family.
