Tough Week for Boys Basketball Team

The Rye boys basketball team played three games in three different ways last week. On Tuesday, on the road at Woodland Park, the Thunderbolts spotted the home team a whole lot of points and then tried to catch up.Woodland Park jumped to a 19-9 lead and extended that to 42-18 at halftime.

Wrestlers Place Second in Their Own Tournament

The Rye High School wrestling team hosted the JV King of the Mountain tournament last Saturday. Rye finished second as a team in the tournament with 150 points, second to only Canon City JV who scored 178 points.Fifteen teams participated in the event.Hyrum Peterson, 150 lb.

Girls Roundball Team Eeks Out Two Point Win Against Manitou

The Rye High School girls basketball team pulled out a narrow 33-31 win over 4A Manitou Springs on the friendly confines of the home court on January 7 to raise their record to 4-2 and 10 in league play.Taci Ehrlich dominated both ends of the court scoring 18 points and stealing the ball 11 times.

A dedicated group of athletes has not allowed the absence of a soccer team at Rye High School to hinder their passion for competitive soccer. Instead, they have put in an extraordinary amount of effort to continue playing the game they love.

Athletic Teams Back in Action First Week in January

After the holidays, the Rye High School sports teams will return to action the first week of January.On Saturday, January 3, the wrestling team travels to the LaVeta Invitational Wrestling Tournament. Action begins at 10 a.m. at LaVeta High School.

The Rye High School girls basketball team won a pair of games and lost a third one by a lone point as they moved their record to 3-2 prior to the Christmas break.Last Monday on the 15th Rye hosted Pueblo South and dominated the game from start to finish.

The Rye High School boys basketball team were four points away from remaining undefeated after hosting their own invitational tournament last week. A narrow hard fought three-point loss to Fowler gave them a 2-1 record for the week and a 5-1 season on the year going into Christmas break.

All-Conference Honors Given to Fall Sport Thunderbolts

The fall sports season was inundated with post season accolades for Rye Thunderbolts. Although each sport is different in how they recognize their most exceptional athletes, Rye certainly had much to be proud of.In golf, Branson Burbidge received second team all-state honors.
