The Rye Fire Protection District (RFPD) holds its board meetings at 5:00 p.m. on the third Monday of each month; in June, that would have been Monday, June 15. However, shortly before 5:00 p.m., the dreaded call came in smoke rising in the area north of Table Mountain off of Old San Isabel Road.
