In 2021, Jeff and Cindy Bailey made significant life changes. Jeff taught his last day of school at Rye High School, and Cindy closed her beloved flower shop, Forget Me Not. They moved to Pueblo to begin a new chapter in their lives.

VCC Provides Fun Play Day for Children

The Valley Community Church opened its doors to provide a day of fun for the Greenhorn Valley Children. Friday, July 24 volunteers from the church set up for fun, opened the doors, and invited children to come and enjoy the day from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Colorado Continues to be Wildfire Hot Spot

Colorado continues to be the hot spot for wildfires with a dozen wildfires being tracked by inci-web. The largest is the Aspen Acres Fire located 10 miles NW of Rye. The fire is listed as human caused and under investigation; and has burned 101,921 acres and is 66% contained.

1876 in the Greenhorn ValleyColorado was admitted to the Union on August 1, 1876, by President Ulysses Grant. It immediately earned the nickname, Centennial State as it became the 38th state, 28-days after the Centennial of the United States.

A Lot of Hard Work Later, the Aspen Acres Fire is Finally Calming Down

As of July 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., the Aspen Acres Fire has burned 101,921 acres and is now 66% contained. The number of personnel on the ground has decreased from over 1,900 to 881, and all evacuations have been downgraded to pre-evacuation or cleared.
