Soccer Team Opens Season with Three Road Wins

The Rye High School Girls’ Soccer team rolled to three road victories to start their 2022 season. On March 29 in their season opener, they downed Pueblo East 2-1. Sydney Adamson and Sophie Adamson each scored a goal on assists from Morgan Gallegos and Corey Allee.

The Rye High School Girls’ Golf team placed 4th in their initial outing of the year at the Rocky Ford Invitational. Emma Garcia, a freshman, won the silver medal for Rye shooting a 107. Kenzie Ensor, Swink, was the gold medalist with a score of 92.

The Rye High School baseball team traveled to the Salida Invitational Baseball Tournament and came away with three victories against stiff competition. Pagosa fell prey to the Thunderbolts first as Rye scored in every inning but the first inning and downed Pagosa 16-1.

Anna Jordan played golf when she attended Rye High School under Coach Dee Betz. And it is Betz who gets credit for Jordan’s knowledge and love for the sport. She hopes to instill this in the 10 girls out for RHS girls golf this season in her first head coaching position.

Valley baseball fans had to be pleased with the home opener on March 26, when the Thunderbolts downed Rocky Ford 7-0 and 11-1. Brock Benz got the win in the 7-0 opener, pitching four scoreless innings and striking out nine batters; while walking only three and giving up two hits.

The Rye High School Girls Basketball team claimed the 3rd place trophy in the Colorado 2A state championship games held at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland last Thursday, Friday and Saturday with an edge of your seat 56-55 victo ry over the Limon Badgers.
