Honors LTC Fred A. Ettleman

About 40 people paid their respects and honored Lieutenant Colonel Fred A. Ettleman, U.S. Army Retired on Saturday, October 28, at the unveiling of a commemorative sign and the renaming of VFW Post 7305. The event was at the meeting place for VFW Post 7305, 5445 Cuerno Verde Blvd.

St. Charles Fire Approaching 300 Acres

The St. Charles Fire continues to burn with zero containment as of mid-morning on Tuesday. At 9:45 a.m. Tuesday the acreage burned had increased to 266 acres, and an ever widening preevacuation area is being considered.

VFC Prepares for Upcoming Activities

During the Sangre De Cristo Volunteers for Community open board meeting many upcoming events were announced. Senior Resource Development Agency (SRDA) meals will begin serving senior lunches on Tuesday, October 24, and will occur each Tuesday, thereafter.

Paul and Ashleigh Okins left Minnesota for the sunny plains of Pueblo seeking a climate that had less snowfall and less cold weather. They arrived in their new home in 2003, and have encountered changes ever since. One of the reasons they chose Pueblo is because it had a college.

Pueblo County Sheriff Visits Town of Rye Board Meeting

At the September 13 meeting of the Town of Rye, Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero did a presentation for the Trustees. Lucero began the meeting with an affirmation that he will continue to hold meetings and help answer questions the community has.

Tragic Train Derailment Leaves I-25 Closed

As of Tuesday morning, October 17, Interstate 25 remained closed in both directions just north of Pueblo with no update available as to when it would reopen. The closure occurred when a train derailment led to the partial collapse of an overpass over Interstate 25 on Sunday afternoon, October 15.

District 70 Schools Presented Performance Banners

Pueblo County School District 70 Superintendent Ronda Rein announced during the October 10 Board of Education meeting that 22 out of the 26 D70 schools had won performance awards.

Area Chaplain Makes Second Trip to Assist People in Maui
