Metro District Board Member Resigns

The September 9, Colorado City Metro District (CCMD) meeting started with a surprise. Clint Gross, who has served 1.5 terms, resigned; an action which the other four members of the board reluctantly accepted during the agenda item portion of the regular meeting.

The Rye Fire Protection District (RFPD) Board held its monthly meeting on Monday, September 15, at 5:00 p.m. at the Colorado City Metropolitan District building. All board members were present, along with Fire Chief Ross Gallegos and legal counsel Richard Orona.

Matt Addington, Athletic Director and Vice-Principal of Rye High School, addressed the Board of Education (BOE) on Tuesday, September 9. He reported a generous donation of $1,200 from Powerhouse Excavation & Construction LLC to support Rye High School Activities.

Important Veteran Benefits Fair Coming on September 27

The local LTC Fred A. Ettleman Post 7305 VFW is sponsoring an important Veterans Benefits Fair for local veterans and their families on September 27, at the Greenhorn Valley Library, 4801 Cibola Drive, from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.

For Robin Smith, the Bookmobile is a Labor of Love

In 2022, Robin Smith applied for nonprofit status to start a unique project that stemmed from her lifelong dream of running a bookmobile.

Greenhorn Kickers Place Second in State Fair Rifle

Local 4-H shooters continued to excel at State Fair this year, earning numerous ribbons in several disciplines. The top five competitors on the Pueblo County Junior .22 rifle 4-Position Sporter team were members of the Greenhorn Kickers 4-H Club.

Largest Fires in Colorado Contained

The bad news is that Colorado has 13 wildfires, the most in the immediate area. The good news is that five of those are 98% or more contained and are not growing. The largest exception to that is the Stoner Mesa Fire which has burned 10,249 acres and is 53% contained.

Remembering 9/11: Reflections from a Retired Fire Chief

Today marks the 24th Anniversary of the tragedy of 9/11. Most of us can recall that day vividly. Those terrorist attacks were the deadliest in human history causing the deaths of 2,996 people including 19 hijackers. Thousands more were injured.

Rye FFA Back-to-School BBQ Creates Good Times

The Rye FFA Chapter kicked off the 2025-26 school year with enthusiasm. What better way to celebrate the new academic year and get back into the FFA spirit than with a fun-filled Back-to-School BBQ Party? The FFA hosted its first gathering of the season at Rye High School on Monday, September 8.
