Greenhorn Valley Book Club Remembers Sharpe

The mood of the April 27 Greenhorn Valley Book Club was decidedly more somber and quieter than usual as we, led by hostess Linda Lewis, paid tribute to John Sharpe. Sharpe, a published author and Colorado City resident who attended the book club meetings passed away in February of 2023.

Rye Seniors Win Big Scholarships from San Isabel Electric Association

Eight Rye High School students have won scholarships from San Isabel Electric, and two of those students won additional scholarship funding from the electric co-op's board of directors.

D70 Board Hears of Van Oort Donation

During the May 2, District 70 Board of Education meeting, Rye High School (RHS) Principal Michelle Madril and RHS Ag teacher and FFA advisor Ethan Beeman expressed appreciation for a gift of $1,400. The donation is coming from the Colorado Water Official Association in memory of John Van Oort.

Colorado City Metro District (CCMD) Chairman Neil Elliot was re-elected to a second term with a narrow three vote margin, in an election where the top four positions were separated by a mere 14 votes.

For the first time since Covid, Rye High School's drama class performed a play, 'Dinner At Eight Dead By Nine.' The students, along with drama teacher Mrs. Anglin and band director Ian Watson, performed the dinner mystery Monday to a sold-out crowd.

Three Active, but Small, Fires Burning in Colorado

There are currently three active fires in Colorado. The largest of the three is the Stove Prairie Fire, which was reported over a month ago. The fire has burned 46 acres, 12.1 miles W of Laporte. The size of the fire has remained the same since the report last week.

The Colorado City Metropolitan Board voted for Level 2 Water restrictions to be implemented starting Monday, May 15, but their reason is not a shortage of water. They are simply asking residents to conserve water and be cautious while they have tank number three down for repairs.
