VFC and SRDA Senior Lunches Continue to Grow

Like most things the Sange de Cristo Volunteers for Community (VFC) do, their partnership with the Pueblo Senior Resource Development Center (SRDA) to bring nutritious lunches for senior citizens is a great success. Tuesdays at 11:00 a.m.

When I asked Janice Salapich, Farm Bureau Insurance agent in Walsenburg, what hobbies she has and what she does in her spare time, her answer was short and to the point, “Nothing,” she replied. It was probably a silly question.

Locals Participate in First Day Hike

The First Day Hike is a hike that is organized by state parks across the United States on New Year’s Day. These hikes are led by park rangers or volunteers and are designed to encourage people to start the new year off on the right foot by getting outside and enjoying nature.

2023 Year in Review - Fourth Quarter

The 2023 Homecoming King and Queen were crowned at the Rye High School Homecoming game, a 56-28 victory over Ellicott. Mason Ford was Homecoming King and Kendall Himmelberg was Queen.

Rye Future Farmers of America Constantly Busy

The Rye High School FFA Chapter is constantly busy with activities and a variety of projects. On December 6th, members of both the Rye and the newly established Craver FFA were able to go to the District Leadership workshop in Florence, CO.

With the middle of August deadline to find a new printer for the View looming, the summer had a cloud hanging over it. In determining a solution to the closing of the Pueblo Chieftain printing facility, price and delivery options proved to be a challenge throughout the third quarter.

Dedicated Coaches and Boys Keep Soccer Alive

Many local students and parents were stunned a few years ago when boys' soccer was dropped from the Rye High School agenda. However, despite having to make some adjustments, one devoted group has not let that decision keep them from having a soccer team.

RCC Saddle Club Year-End Summary

2023 was a prosperous year for the Rye/Colorado City Saddle Club. One of the biggest physical changes to the rodeo grounds was that the old warm-up pen was torn down and replaced with a much better round pen.
