Community Garden Expansion was a True Community Event

Saturday, June 1, was a busy day at the Colorado City Community Garden located behind the swimming pool. Residents of all ages and sizes gathered to clean up and expand the community garden.Two new beds for growing fresh vegetables for the VFC food pantry were created during Saturday’s workday.

Positive Progress at Rye Fire Protection District

Rye Fire Protection District Fire Chief Steve Bennett was able to share many positive actions in the works for RFPD.The hiring process is being restructured with new interview processes, updated training and check-off training procedures for new employees.

Graduates Commemorate Wins and Losses at Ceremony

Brendan Gray received the award as class Valedictorian at the Rye High School graduation ceremony last Thursday night. Gray graduated with a 4.21 cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) and took half a dozen Advanced Placement classes in his four-year term as a Thunderbolt.

Valley Tea Held to Benefit the Greenhorn Valley Backpack Project

The spectacular 6th Valley Tea was held on April 27 to benefit the Greenhorn Valley Backpack Project provide for area children. This event, originally planned to be an annual event, has been missing from the Valley for the last few years since the COVID restrictions halted it in 2020.

Penrose VFW Post Commander to Speak at Memorial Day Service

The featured speaker at the Ltc Fred A. Ettleman Post 7305 Memorial Day Service being held at the Colorado City Cemetery will feature James Sheridan.Sheridan joined the Navy at the age of 17 in 1978 and was stationed onboard the USS John F. Kennedy.

Third Grade Wrestler Brett Repka

Colorado City Third Grader Brett Repka finished the CUSAW (Colorado USA Wrestling) freestyle regular season May 18th at Ponderosa High School (Black Fox tournament).Brett wrestled in the 10U division 65 lbs. and was bracketed against three Peak to Peak State Champions.
