Holy Smokes! Smokey Bear Celebrated His 80th Birthday

Since 1944, Smokey’s been working hard to inspire Americans to prevent wildfires and keep our forests safe. The creation of Smokey Bear was authorized by the Forest Service on August 9, 1944, and this date is considered the character's birthday.

Three Generations of Barbers Bring Skills to Colorado City

Every year, the family of Louie Aguilar has their family reunion in Colorado City. They love the beauty of the terrain and the beauty of the people. They return year after year.

Weather Hampered Turn Out but Not Fun at Town Square Fair

A persistent drizzle the evening before, followed by a cool and cloudy morning with a forecast of more rain seriously reduced the number of vendors that set up for the Rye Town Square Fair. Fair organizers had reported nearly sixty vendors had reserved spaces for the Rye Town Square Fair.

Candidates a Hit at Paula for Pueblo BBQ

Approximately 80 to 100 interested citizens gathered at the Greenhorn Meadows Park Pavilion on Sunday, August 11, to get to know some of the candidates for Pueblo County offices. A pulled pork BBQ, paid for by the Committee to Elect Paula McPheeters, Pueblo County Commissioner District 2, was held.

VFW Post 7305 Celebrates 50th Anniversary

The Veterans of Foreign Wars, Colorado City/Rye, post 7305 will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary on August 17, 2024, from 11am to 12 noon. The celebration is open to the public who are invited to an open house with free Ice Cream and Cake.

Fun Times Return with Back-to-School

Although start dates vary from class to class, Monday, August 12, will be the first day of school for all students in the Rye area to once again grace the halls of their schools. Back to school always seems to elicit a jumble of emotions from teachers, school staff, students, and parents.

Smoke from Colorado Fires Expected to Linger

Fifteen active fires were burning in Colorado as of Monday night at 10:00 p.m. The largest is the Alexander Mountain Fire, which had an original location of eight miles WNW of Loveland. Four hundred and fifty firefighters are involved in fighting that blaze.

Another opportunity to hear Pueblo County government candidates' views will be at the Pulled Pork BBQ on AUGUST 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Greenhorn Meadows Park Pavilion.Tickets are $12.00 for adults, $6.00 for those five to twelve years of age, and children four and under are free.

RHS Band Camp Prepares for New Year

Director Ian Watson and Rye High School band members held a camp last week from Monday thru Saturday.Watson described the attendees as a “mostly veteran member group,” and that they were “leagues ahead of where they were last year.
