Wrestlers Compete in League Tournament Thursday Night

Rye High School took half a dozen wrestlers to the Gunnison Cowboy Invitational last Saturday and came back with an eighthplace finish in the 16-team event. Remington Peterson continued his season unbeaten with a gold medal in the 195 lb. weight class and a 13-0 record for the season.
Another game and another win for the Lady T-Bolts who are now 9-0 overall and 3-0 league. Rye beat Holly High School 58-14 on Friday, Jan. 7 at an away conference game. During the second quarter Senior Sophie Adamson #20 achieved her 1000th point and was announced on the loudspeaker to cheers by the crowd from both schools. Rye Girls Start January Where They Left Off

The Rye High School Girls’ basketball team picked up where they left off before Christmas break downing Holly 58-14 last Friday. Sydney Adamson led the Lady T’s with 20 points, four assists, and eight steals. Sophie Adamson had 17 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.

Peterson Named Outstanding Wrestler, Rye Places 12th

Remington Peterson ran his record to 11-0 and won the gold medal at the Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational held in Walsenburg last Saturday. Peterson dominated his four opponents, with technical fall wins of 26-11, 23-8, and 22-7 before pinning Cobb of Peyton 49 seconds into the second period.
Rye’s T-Bolts had walk-off wins on Dec. 9, 10 and 11 during the Rye High School Varsity Basketball Classic with wins against Pueblo Centennial 50-46, Trinidad 63-27, and Colorado Springs School 64- 30. The Rye High School Boys’ basketball team rolled to a perfect 3-0 week in their own tournament including a come from behind victory against 4A foe Pueblo Centennial on the opening night of the tournament.

The winter sports schedule begins in earnest this week with basketball and wrestling action. Today (Thursday), the basketball teams travel to Centauri for a tournament that lasts through Saturday. Early incomplete rosters listed on MaxPreps show that 13 boys are out for basketball.

Elarton and Graham Named to All-State Team; Ten Fall Athletes Honored

Morgan Elarton and Gracie Graham were selected by 2A Colorado Volleyball Coaches throughout the state to compete in the All-State game at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Collins which was played Sunday the 21st. The selection is done by a vote of 2A coaches and is restricted to Seniors.

Rye Volleyball Team Downs Santa Fe League Champion on Way to Fifth Place in the State

On the evening of September 2, the Rye High School Girls’ Volleyball team hosted eventual Santa Fe League champion, Fowler and lost 3-0. The loss gave the Thunderbolts a 2-3 record. The total scores of the three matches were 75- 42. Jump forward to October 14. This time the scene shifts to Fowler.

Wrestling Coach Billy Forell returns for his third season as the Head Coach of the Rye High School grapplers. Returning with him will be defending 182 lb. state champion Remington Peterson. Peterson is a senior.

Girls Basketball Team Looks for Return Trip to State

Rye High School Girls’ Basketball Head Coach Kermit Spencer has much to be optimistic about. Spencer, in his 5th year as Head Coach has six returning varsity players, four of whom are seniors. These girls traveled to state last year and have experience at the postseason level.
