Volleyball Team Eyes Trip to State this Season

Michelle Roy begins her second year as the head coach of the Rye High School volleyball team. In addition to volleyball, Roy has four years of assistant coach experience in softball. Roy is expecting about 35 volleyball players and has a lot of depth. There are a dozen letter winners on the squad.

New Coach Exited About Upcoming Season

Ian Martinez McGraw will begin his first season as boys golf coach. In fact, they are the sport that begins the earliest and already had their first match (see story below). Martinez has coached baseball at the high school level and high school travel ball for a total of eight years.

Young Thunderbolt Linksters Open Season in Swink

The Rye High School boys golf team competed in the Swink Invitational Tournament played at the La Junta Municipal Golf Course on Friday August 4th. Monte Vista High School captured the team championship with a team score of 234. Host school, Swink, finished second with a score of 256.

Blackhurst Hopes to Celebrate 12th Year as Cross Country Coach with State Visit

T.J. Blackhurst is the dean of the fall sports coaches at Rye High School as he begins his 12th year as the crosscountry coach. That makes year one in 2012. All told Blackhurst has been coaching in high school for 14 years as a head coach and six years as an assistant coach in a variety of sports.

Fall Sports Coaches Announced

Coaches for the fall sports at Rye High School have been announced by Athletic Director Matt Addington. Connor Pigg will be the boys football coach. T.J. Blackhurst will coach the cross-country team.

Thunderbolt Hurler Receives All-State Mention

Aydin Swald of Rye High School earned a spot on the Honorable Mention list for the Rye Thunderbolt baseball team in CHSAA 2023 allstate baseball selections. Swald was 4-2 pitching on the season with a 3.28 ERA and also averaged .313 from the plate.

South Falls to North in Nearly Five Hour All-Star Game

The CHSAA All-Star Football game, held at CSUPueblo on June 16, qualifies as one of the longest games in Rye High School Football Coach Connor Pigg’s career. Pigg had been selected as one of the five coaches for the south squad.

Golf Team Ends Season at State Tournament

RHS Girls Golf Team Wins Regionals by 49 Strokes

The Rye High School Girls Golf Team captured the Regional Championship team title held on Wednesday, May 24 at the Hollydot Golf Course. The Rye team shot a total of 243 a full 49 strokes over 2nd place Salida. Kyndra Johnson of Salida was the gold medalist with a total of 74.
