Thunderbolt Girls Split a Pair of

The Lady Thunderbolt basketball team split a pair of games last week and moved their record to 3-12 overall and 2-8 in conference play. They are currently in 11th place of the 15 team Tri Peaks 3A-4A League.

Rye Boys Win Two of Three Last Week

The Rye High School boys basketball team moved their record to 11-5 with a pair of victories and one very close loss last week. In the Tri-Peaks League, Rye sits at 7-5 in 8th place in the 15-school conference. On January 29th, Rye dropped a close 62-59 decision to James Irwin on the road.

Rye Wrestling Team Competes in Tough Valley Classic

The Rye High School wrestling team competed in the Valley Classic held at Center High School on January 26-27. Twenty-six teams participated in the event. Centauri won the tournament with 209 points. Rye High School placed 16th and scored 40 points Dayton Blok, wrestling in the 285 lb.

Wrestlers Prepare for Valley Classic

The Rye High School wrestling team placed 16th in the 25 team Gene Gagliardi Invitational wrestling tournament held in Trinidad last Saturday. LaJunta won the team title with 186.5 points. Rye had 43 team points. Skyler Moore won the bronze medal in the 165 lb.

Wrestlers Shine at Custer and in League Tournament

The Rye High School wrestling team competed in the Santa Fe League tournament on Thursday and then traveled to Westcliffe for the Custer County Bobcat Invitational on Saturday. In the league tournament held in Fowler, Rocky Ford claimed the team title with 194 points in the nineteam league.

The Rye High School boys team traveled to Lamar on January 4 and returned with a 50-42 hard fought loss. “It was a tough battle for sure, but we beat ourselves in that one,” shared Head Coach Lane Sherwood.

Lamar Downs Thunderbolts on the Road

The 4A Lamar Girls Basketball team rolled over Rye 50-13 on their home court on January 4. The Thunderbolts were held to 13% shooting from the field and missed on all four free throw attempts in the game. Lacie Laca scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in the loss.

Rye Wrestlers Host Meet

The Rye Wrestling Team hosted a dual tournament on January 6. Schools that attended were Hanover, Sierra Grande, Buena Vista, Florence, Cheyenne Mountain, Bear Creek, Pueblo Central Varsity and Pueblo Central JV.

Winter sports teams go back to work today (Thursday) with all athletic Thunderbolts on the road. The girls and boys basketball teams travel to Lamar today to do battle, while the wrestling squad has a dual in LaJunta. Saturday there will be a C team basketball tournament held in Las Animas.
