The Greenhorn Valley is filled with talent, and the Greenhorn Valley Library is offering local artists a chance to display their works. A rotating display in the library currently showcases stunning works by the first group of local artists, and the library is taking entries for the next show.
Back in May, library employee Henry Aspen Pounds shared an invitation via social media: “Submit your art for the new Greenhorn Valley Library gallery wall!
I've lived in the Greenhorn Valley half of my life. I want to create a space where local artists can display their work and help get their name out there in the community. This community isn't known for supporting the arts, even though we have several talented artists living here. I wanted to change that, to help give local artists a voice. No gallery fees, no commission, no barriers to artistic expression. Let's help make the Valley even more beautiful and help local artists!”
Entries for the original show were set to close June 15, but then, as everyone knows, the Aspen Acres Fire disrupted life in the Greenhorn Valley. The first artists’ reception was actually held on August 7. Refreshments were served, and there was a live demo from one of the artists doing a one-stroke painting technique. Community members were able to see the artwork and visit with the artists. That artwork of seven wonderful local artists has been on display on the new gallery walls in the library since then. Artists displayed during this show are: Tom McDonald, Donna Jansen, Susan Cronk, Terry Wise, Sylvia Walker, Kay McCarty, and Nik Walworth.
Pounds and the library have recently issued another invitation to local artists to submit their work for the next show. The deadline for the autumn show is November 1, with the next show starting on November 13. There is no fee to display the art. All mediums are accepted; however, there is a size limit of 42 inches, and they must be ready to hang.
Inquire at the library's front desk for a submission form and more details.
