Chandler Encourages Students to ‘Never Stop Learning’

Rye High School (RHS) is proud to have a highly energetic lady who has taken over some tough subjects. Wendy Chandler joined the RHS team in January of 2023 to teach personal finance, algebra I, geometry, and statistics.

Young Wrestler Earns First Place

Nine-year-old Brett Repka of Colorado City, competed in the Burton Bash Wrestling Tournament at Widefield High School on Saturday, November 4th. Brett took first place in both the 10U and 12U age brackets, at 64 pounds.

RHS Feels Like Home to Stephanie Guilliams

With a welcoming smile and warm attitude Stephanie Guilliams, counselor at Rye High School, immediately makes people feel comfortable. Even better she says that RHS feels like home to her since she has been coming to the area since she was 16 years of age.

Remarkably Bright Creatures

The Greenhorn Valley Book Club gathered on Thursday, October 26, at the Greenhorn Library to discuss the novel, Remarkably Bright Creatures. The lighthearted, detailed, and fun book brought out a lightness in the group, as well, as they discussed the characters and detailed plot.

During the October 24, Pueblo County School District 70 Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Ronda Rein gave an update on schools she had visited recently and activities there. She explained that one of the most fun activities she had taken part in was the annual pumpkin distribution.

Ettleman to be Honored by VFW Post 7305 Saturday

On Saturday, October 28, the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars will dedicate and rename VFW Post 7305 in honor of Lieutenant Colonel Fred A. Ettleman, U.S. Army Retired and Past Post Commander. The event will begin at 1:00 p.m. at 5445 Cuerno Verde Blvd., Colorado City, next to Lake Beckwith.

Anna’s Mission Hosts RHUMC Fall Fair

Vendors may have started the day at the Fall Fair held at the Rye Home United Methodist Church (RHUMC) bundled up and shivering, but by midday, they had a fall day truly worthy of a festival. Temperatures had warmed up and the golden, fall sunshine made browsing the vendors enjoyable.

9th Annual Colorado City Rye Lions

The 9th Annual Colorado City Rye Lions Car Show was a grand slam hit again this year. This event is one of the community’s favorites, as it draws fascinating cars from all over the state.

New Baptist Preacher and Wife Have a Heart for God’s Children

Paul and Ashleigh Okins left Minnesota for the sunny plains of Pueblo seeking a climate that had less snowfall and less cold weather. They arrived in their new home in 2003, and have encountered changes ever since. One of the reasons they chose Pueblo is because it had a college.

Pueblo County Sheriff Visits Town of Rye Board Meeting

At the September 13 meeting of the Town of Rye, Pueblo County Sheriff David Lucero did a presentation for the Trustees. Lucero began the meeting with an affirmation that he will continue to hold meetings and help answer questions the community has.
