Lady Thunderbolts Run into Number One Team in the State

The Rye High School girls basketball team ran into the number one team in 3A on January 17 and fell on their home court 71-18. “CSCS put on a lot of full court defensive pressure,” shared Head Coach T. J. Blackhurst.

Wrestlers Have a Busy Week

The Rye High School wrestling team placed five wrestlers in the top four at the Santa Fe League Tournament held at Crowley County High School last Thursday. Rye finished 8th of the nine league schools with 45 points. Rocky Ford outdistanced everyone, capturing the team title with 204 points.

The Rye High School Girls’ basketball team began the post-Christmas break with a win on the road and a loss at home. T.J. Blackhurst’s Lady Thunderbolts traveled to Colorado Springs to play Atlas Preparatory on January 4 and came away with a commanding 44-18 win.

The Rye High School Sports teams get back into action after Christmas break on Wednesday January 4 when the boys’ and girls’ basketball teams travel to Colorado Springs to face Atlas Preparatory School. The girls take the court at 5:30 p.m.

Wrestlers Finish 16th in 30 Team Tournament

The Rye Wrestling team placed 16th out of 30 teams at the Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational wrestling tournament held in Walsenburg at John Mall High School last Saturday. Trinidad captured the team title with 184.5 points. Rye scored 41 points again led by 113 lb.

The Rye High School Boys Basketball team outshot LaJunta 48% to 32% from the field and sophomore Isaiah Guzman scored 20 points, as the Thunderbolts won their initial league game of the season on the road, 53-46. The Thunderbolts are 3-0 for the season.

The Rye High School Wrestling team started their season at full tilt with a dual match in Woodland Park last Thursday and a team tournament at Rocky Ford on Saturday. At Woodland Park on Thursday the seven Thunderbolt wrestlers won three matches and lost four. Andy Prichard, 113 lbs.
