Lane Sherwood is beginning his second year as the Head Coach of the Rye High School Boys basketball team. Sherwood was promoted to the top spot after coaching JV for the Squad two years ago.

“State tournament didn’t pan out like we had hoped but these girls had a heck of a season,” shared Rye High School volleyball coach, Michele Roy. “Unfortunately, we took a loss in the first-round vs Limon. We started the match off well by winning the first set but then started to fall apart.

The Rye High School girls volleyball team punched their ticket to the 2A state tournament to be held at the Denver Coliseum with a pair of victories in the regional tournament they hosted.

Thunderbolt Football Team Falls Short of Playoff Spot

The football season for the Rye High School Thunderbolt Football team ended in Rocky Ford where the RHS football team won a convincing 42-36 victory. Less the score fool you, Rye led at halftime 35-7 and the Meloneers scored 21 of their 36 points in the final quarter.

Cross Country Season Ends at State Tournament

David Maroney placed 41st out of the 136 best boys’ 2A cross country runners at the 2A State Tournament held at the Norris-Penrose Events Center in Colorado Springs. Maroney completed the 5,000meter course in a time of 17:53.40.

The Rye High School volleyball team will host one of the regional tournaments on November 4, as post season plays with the Lady T’s seeded #2 in 2A tournament action. Holyoke (10-13), ranked #23 and Telluride (10-11) ranked #35, along with RHS will make up the three teams vying to advance.

The Rye Cross Country team had their final meet before Regionals when the competed in the Pueblo City/County Cross Country Championships on October 11th. David Maroney placed 5th in the boy’s competition running the 5000 meters in a time of 18:14.20.
