Rye Wrestlers Host Meet

The Rye Wrestling Team hosted a dual tournament on January 6. Schools that attended were Hanover, Sierra Grande, Buena Vista, Florence, Cheyenne Mountain, Bear Creek, Pueblo Central Varsity and Pueblo Central JV.

Sports Teams Start 2024 on the Road

Winter sports teams go back to work today (Thursday) with all athletic Thunderbolts on the road. The girls and boys basketball teams travel to Lamar today to do battle, while the wrestling squad has a dual in LaJunta. Saturday there will be a C team basketball tournament held in Las Animas.

Rye Lady T-Bolts Focusing on Fundamentals

Martines Wins Silver Medal at Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational

The Rye High School wrestling team competed in the Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational Wrestling Tournament held at John Mall High School in Walsenburg on the 16th of December. Bear Creek won the team title of the 31-team event with 156.5 points. Rye placed 21st with 38.0 points.

Rye Boys Ranked Sixth in 3A in Early Season Polls

The Rye High School Boys Basketball team won their first league game, downing LaJunta 64-48 at home and kept their overall record at a perfect 4-0. Seniors Brendan Gray and Jay Graham led the scoring.

Wrestlers Out Dual Trinidad on the Road

The Rye Wrestling Team traveled to Trinidad last Thursday, December 7 and won four out of five contested weight classes. At 126 pounds Andy Prichard won a major decision 12-4 over Trinidad’s Eric Martinez. Rye’s Hyrum Peterson won a 5-3 decision in the 144 lb. weight class over Mathew Garduno.

Forell’s Fifth Year as Wrestling Coach Shows Promise for the Future

Billy Forell began his 5th year as the Head Wrestling Coach for Rye High School when official practices began on November 13th. Forell who wrestled, played football and ran track for RHS is expecting around 10 wrestlers including five letter winners.

Four Football Players Honored with Tri Peaks All-League Selections

Four members of the Rye High School Thunderbolt team received first team honors in the Tri Peaks League. Dylan Hurne captured not only first team status but was named the Tri Peaks League Most Valuable Player. Hurney led the league and set a RHS school record with 2044 rushing yards for the season.
