Karen Sue Holgerson, 81, of Rye Colorado went to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She passed away surrounded by the love of her family.
Karen was born in Nashville, Kansas on March 1, 1945, to Lonnie and Eileen Warrington. She married the love of her life, Thomas Holgerson, in 1963, beginning a marriage filled with faith, hard work, and devotion to family. In 1970, Tom and Karen moved to Rye, Colorado with their three children, where they built a life and deep roots in the community. Together, Tom and Karen owned and operated T.K. Construction for more than 40 years. She also was employed as a real estate agent, executive secretary, and florist through the years. Karen was a dedicated partner in both business and life. She was deeply rooted in her faith and was a devoted Christian throughout her life. She faithfully played the organ and piano at church for many years, sharing her musical gifts in worship and service to others. She found joy in knitting and crocheting, lovingly creating handmade treasures for family and friends. Karen will be remembered for her caring heart, steadfast faith, and unwavering love for those around her… and of course her homemade pies.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom; her children, Cherie (Barry) Shepherd of Aurora, CO, Troy (Melissa) Holgerson of Hutchinson, KS, and Tammy (Rodney) Bolin of Rockerville, SD; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, sister Marlene (Rex) Nelson, of Hutchinson, KS, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie and Eileen Warrington. Karen’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion to family will live on in all who knew and loved her.
A beautiful service was held last Saturday, July 18, 2026 at the Valley Community Church in Colorado City. The family would like to express special thanks to Pastor Jesse Anderson from River of Life Assembly of God for all of his help and leading such a beautiful service, The Valley Community Church for allowing us to use their facility due to the wildfire, Allelon Hospice and Palliative Care for taking such good care of Karen the last six months, and Riviera El Camino Senior Living of Pueblo for opening their facility to senior evacuees during the wildfire and allowing us to give mom the care she needed.
To our family and friends who have stood beside us, offered prayers, shared memories, provided help, and supported us through the past several weeks and months - thank you. Your love and kindness have meant more than words can express.
