Ruben Espinoza Fishing Derby a Community Tribute

It is time for fun and fishing on Saturday, June 17, as the Greenhorn Valley Chamber presents the Rueben Espinoza Fishing Derby of 2023 at Lake Beckwith in Colorado City. With renewed energy and interest being poured into this event it is shaping up to be one for the books.

Chucka Agency Introduces Farmers Insurance Team and Offices

In March of 2019, David Chucka left the home building industry, opened his Farmers Insurance office in Colorado City, and moved steadily forward. He recently opened an office in Pueblo, joining the Walsenburg and Colorado City offices.

Graduates Challenged to Make their Mark with Kindness and Grace

Forty-eight Rye High School students walked into the Rye High School Gymnasium as seniors last Thursday night, and left an hour later as 2022-23 graduates. Salutatorian Brianna Prichard recalled that at least 14 of the graduating class had attended school together since kindergarten.

Former VFW Commander Honored at Memorial Day Service

Chaplain (COL) Andy Meverden, retired, stood up to speak at the 2023 Memorial Day Service at the Colorado City Cemetery, hosted by Cuerne Verde VFW Post 7305. He addressed the 100 or so attendees and asked them to listen to a voicemail he wanted to share.

RHS Students Attend Les Misérables at the DCPA

Ninety-Two Rye High School (RHS) students, four adult school chaperones, and two community members made an awesome trip to the Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) on May 18th. The occasion was to see Les Misérables, the musical based on the original novel by Victor Hugo.

Craver’s Sonnleitner Wins the Colorado Teacher Award for Education and Civic Achievement

Erin Sonnleitner, 6th grade English Language Arts and Social Studies teacher at Craver Middle School, received the prestigious Colorado Teacher Award for Education and Civic Achievement on May 11. Sonnleitner was one of four Pueblo County School District 70 teachers to receive the award.
