On Saturday, July 11, the parking lot of Greenhorn Valley Ace Hardware was bustling with tents, trailers, conex-type boxes, dumpsters, vehicles, signs, and volunteers, as it transformed into a crucial hub for returning evacuees.

Containment Efforts Increase, but the Aspen Acres Fire Continues to Rage

The Aspen Acres Fire is a devastating force, consuming land, homes, and outbuildings. Since it ignited on June 29, it has grown to 99,076 acres as of Tuesday, July 14. The fire has spread across four counties: Pueblo, Custer, Fremont, and Huerfano, with containment reported at 36%.

The Disaster Assistance Center (DAC) for the Aspen Acres Fire has been established at the Pueblo Academy of Arts (formerly Pitts Middle School), located at 29 Lehigh Ave, Pueblo, and is coordinated by DOLA.Help is available for those affected by the wildfire, and no appointment is necessary.
