Evraz Steel Mill and Vision Hills Fires Contained

At Evraz Mountain Steel Mill a fire erupted last Friday and produced large quantities of black smoke, health advisories and multiple burned buildings.On Saturday, Mayor Heather Graham posted a video saying the fire was under control.

Thunderbolt WinterGuard Places 5th at State Contest

Saturday, April 6, was a huge day for the Thunderbolt WinterGuard as they made the long trek to Denver to compete in the State Championships.On a long and nerve-wracking day, the team left the Greenhorn Valley early in the morning, and placing announcements wasn’t completed until almost 10:00 p.m.

Spring is typically windy in Colorado and March is often legendary for its windstorms, but April provided some noteworthy gusts this past weekend as the area was bombarded with high wind. The National Weather Service recorded more than 40 wind gusts of 75 mph or more during the April 6 -7 storm.

Community Turns Out for Town Hall

Greenhorn Valley residents turned out to pack the house for the Town Hall Meeting on April 4. Event organizers issued an invitation to attend and let Commissioner Griego listen to your concerns regarding issues throughout the county, especially in the Colorado City area.

Two Rare Events Happening in April

Look up! Coloradans are getting the chance to witness two rare events in the sky during April of 2024. A total solar eclipse on April 8 will also display the 12P/Pons-Brooks comet which comes around only approximately every 71 years.
